On Tuesday the whole band made themselves very comfortable on the sofa of the Turan Audio mastering studio in Oxford whilst Tim Turan put the finishing touches to the debut Sanguine Hum album Diving Bell. The finished record clocks in at a tight 42mins and 55 seconds, and contains 8 tracks which are:

1. No More Than We Deserve (5:08)

2. The Ladder (3:56)

3. Dark Ages (4:42)

4. Coast of Nebraska (6:15)

5. The Trial (6:06)

6. Nothing Between Us (6:10)

7. Diving Bell (5:46)

8. There’s No Hum (4:50)

We’re now working away on the artwork but we’ll be posting some tasters of the album soon.

News Update

Sanguine Hum have been mentioned in the lastest edition of Classic Rock Presents Prog magazine in the review for the Winter’s End festival. Here’s what Jerry Ewing had to say about our early Sunday morning 50 min set: “openers Sanguine Hum are more than worth it. Prog (magazine) hasn’t heard of them before, but soon warm to their clever noodling. Vaguely reminiscent of Hatfield and the North, it’s not difficult to understand why Steve Davis rates them.” Thanks again to Ian “Eppy” Fairholm for arranging our slot at the festival, and hopefully this is the start of more national and international press coverage for the “new” band.

Meanwhile, the debut Sanguine Hum album is heading towards the final stages. The current working title for the record is Diving Bell (as mentioned on our interesting alternative show interview in March), and it will contain 8 tracks. Song titles include: Everything’s Going to Change, Dark Ages, Coast of Nebraska and Nothing Between Us as well as the title track. Look out for a new Myspace page for the band and some audio clips in the next few months.

Finally, apologies for the lack of updates in April and May….we have some gremlins in the system stopping us from adding content (such as photos form the Winter’s End gig), but we should have things back to normal soon. Thanks for listening!

Winter’s End Festival

Sanguine Hum, Stroud, March 14th 2010

A belated thanks to those of you who attended our hour long set at the Winter’s End festival back in March. We opened up proceedings on Day 2 of the festival in Stroud and it was great to see so many of you so early in the day who were treated to a selection of the old Nuns material plus a few new tracks including Diving Bell, a song from the forthcoming Sanguine Hum album. Lots of you were also snapping away on your cameras throughout the day (thanks to Neil Palfreyman for the above shot) and we’ll be adding a selection of photos to the media section over the next few days. The response to the band has been encouraging, with the Dutch Progressive Rock Page saying “their music was both engaging and interesting in approach and had the audience paying full attention”. The full review will be added to the reviews page.

Sanguine Hum on the Interesting Alternative Show

Joff Winks and Matt Baber will be the guests on tomorrow’s Interesting Alternative Show with Steve Davis on Pheonix FM. Steve has been a long standing supporter of all of the music here at TFS so you can expect a healthy dose of Nuns/Nunbient/JWB, along with a selection of some of the key influences that were behind the early recordings, plus, we will also be premiering a brand new Sanguine Hum song called Diving Bell which is still in the “rough mix” stage, but will give everyone an exciting glimpse into what to expect when the full album is released later this year. Show time is between 10pm and midnight!

New european language reviews

As our audience at troopers for sound has been growing over the past few months we are getting more regular visits from Italy, the Netherlands and many more countries from around the world. This is largely due to the diligent work of a few dedicated prog bloggers and music writers who are helping us build a lager audience. So, in honour of the aforementioned writers, we are now listing all the european language reviews for our releases so you, dear reader, can enjoy finding out what the critiques think of the music in your native tongue.

Sanguine Hum to open Winter’s End festival

Sanguine Hum have just been confirmed to open the second day of winter’s end prog festival on Sunday the 14th of March. This is a new festival organised by Stephen Lambe in collaboration with the Classic Rock Society and the team that brings you the Summers End Festival. The festival will be taking place in Stroud at a venue in the town centre called The Space, a 200 seat arts centre.

Epileptic Gibbon best of 2009 poll

Sanguine Hum : plays the nuns available now!

So, as many readers will know, a few months ago Antique Seeking Nuns released Careful! It’s Tepid, the final part in their Triple Burst saga that brought the band to a fitting full stop. However, as you’re also probably aware, Sanguine Hum is picking up from where the Nuns left off, which leads us to the first release under the new band name: Sanguine Hum – plays the nuns. This three track download only release features two live Nuns classics and a first recording of Cat Factory, which up until now has not seen the light of day on any other release. In many ways this is a transitional recording paving the way for a full length Sanguine Hum album scheduled for release early in the summer of 2010.
