Troopers For Sound
Troopers for sound is an independent record label that specialises in progressive and eclectic music of real integrity in composition, sound and performance. The label was instigated in 2001 by Joff Winks and Matt Baber initially as a means to release the debut Antique Seeking Nuns EP Mild Profundities, but soon expanded into something far greater as necessitated by the sheer range of musical endeavours pursued by the two musicians/composers. These include the aforementioned surreal yet infectious Zappa influenced prog rock of Antique Seeking Nuns, the Steely Dan edged prog-pop of Joff Winks Band, the dark, sonorous and cinematic excursions into ambient electronica that is Nunbient, and an ever expanding catalogue of contempory classical works that draw inspiration from the likes of Steve Reich, Arvo Part and Stravinsky amongst others. Leading the pack is the latest project Sanguine Hum: a truly unique meeting place for inspired song craft, bewildering yet beguiling time signature experiments, and a euphoric return to rock as the primary medium of pushing the boundaries of music.
